Baltimore County Police have identified Richard L. Sprouse as the victim who was pulled out of a fire that broke out in the 8000 block of Gray Haven Road on Wednesday, May 10.
Flames could be seen showing from the top floor of a residence at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon, sending plumes of black smoke billowing through the air in the area.
Officials say that while en route to the fire, crews were advised that someone was possibly trapped on the second floor, and when first responders attempted to reach him, they were turned back by heavy smoke, fire, and intense heat.
Fire crews arrived minutes later, they were able to breach the home and found Sprouse on the second floor in cardiac arrest.
He was rushed in critical condition to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, where doctors provided additional treatment before he was pronounced dead.
The fire was declared under control within an hour, at approximately 1:20 p.m. on Thursday afternoon. It was ruled accidental that was caused by an electrical fire in the victim's mobility chair.
